Proper peptide reconstitution is one of the most critical steps in research preparation. Using the wrong solvent, incorrect ratios, or poor technique can compromise your results before the experiment even begins. This guide walks through the complete process — from what you need to how to store your reconstituted solution.

What You'll Need
- Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide vial
- Bacteriostatic water (BAC Water) — such as Insulfine BAC Water Reconstitution Solution
- Insulin syringe or low-dead-volume syringe
- Alcohol swabs
- A clean, sterile workspace
Why BAC Water? Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits microbial growth and extends the shelf life of your reconstituted peptide — typically up to 28 days when refrigerated.
Step-by-Step Reconstitution Process
Step 1 — Calculate your desired concentration
Determine how much BAC Water to add based on your target concentration. For example, if you have a 5mg peptide vial and want a concentration of 1mg/mL, add 5mL of BAC Water.
Step 2 — Prepare your workspace
Wipe the rubber stoppers of both the peptide vial and BAC Water vial with an alcohol swab. Allow to air dry for 30 seconds.
Step 3 — Draw the BAC Water
Using a clean syringe, draw the calculated volume of BAC Water from the Insulfine vial.
Step 4 — Inject slowly into the peptide vial
Insert the needle at an angle and allow the BAC Water to run down the side of the vial — do not inject directly onto the peptide powder, as this can cause degradation.
Step 5 — Gently swirl, do not shake
Slowly swirl the vial until the peptide is fully dissolved. Shaking can break peptide bonds and reduce potency.
Step 6 — Inspect the solution
The reconstituted solution should be clear. Cloudiness or particulates may indicate contamination or incomplete dissolution.
Storage Guidelines
- Store reconstituted peptides at 2–8°C (refrigerated)
- Use within 28 days when reconstituted with BAC Water
- Keep away from light and heat
- Label each vial with the reconstitution date and concentration
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using sterile water instead of BAC Water — sterile water has no preservative, significantly shortening usable life
- Shaking the vial — always swirl gently
- Injecting BAC Water directly onto the powder — always aim for the vial wall
- Skipping alcohol swab steps — contamination risk increases significantly
Why Vial Size Matters
Insulfine BAC Water is available in 10mL and 30mL vials, in packs of 2 to 12. For single-peptide reconstitutions, a 10mL vial is typically sufficient. For labs running multiple reconstitutions, the 30mL multi-pack offers better efficiency and cost per mL.
