How Much BAC Water Do You Need? A Simple Guide

⚠️ For Research Use Only (RUO). Not for human or animal use.

If you’ve just received a peptide vial and a bottle of bacteriostatic water, you might be wondering: how much do I add?

The short answer: it depends on the concentration your protocol calls for. Here’s how to figure it out quickly.

The Simple Formula

Volume of BAC Water = Peptide Amount (mg) ÷ Target Concentration (mg/mL)

Example:
You have a 5 mg peptide vial and want 1 mg/mL → add 5 mL of BAC water.
You have a 5 mg peptide vial and want 2 mg/mL → add 2.5 mL of BAC water.

Quick Reference Table

Peptide Amount Target Concentration BAC Water to Add
2 mg 1 mg/mL 2.0 mL
5 mg 1 mg/mL 5.0 mL
5 mg 2 mg/mL 2.5 mL
10 mg 1 mg/mL 10.0 mL
10 mg 2 mg/mL 5.0 mL

Values shown are for calculation reference only. Always follow your specific research protocol.

Which Vial Size Do You Need?

  • Adding less than 10 mL → a 10 mL vial works fine
  • Adding more than 10 mL → go with a 30 mL vial

Tips

  • Add BAC water slowly along the side of the vial — don’t squirt directly onto the powder
  • Swirl gently until dissolved — never shake or vortex
  • Store according to your protocol requirements. See our storage guide for details.
  • Always check your specific protocol for the recommended concentration
